About Foreign Domestic Helper Hiring Process
The process will take at least 2-3 months upon confirmation of the candidate to process. The time frame depends on many factors so the process time is very subjective.
If the housemaid decided to cancel her application to Malaysia, the agency will inform the employer with proper cancellation letter from the housemaid. The employer will be required to select a new candidate to process at no cost
The following are the steps to hire a housemaid:
- Selection of Foreign Domestic Helper (FDH)
- Deposit payment upon confirmation of FDH
- Selected FDH will proceed for passport and medical
- Employer shall prepare prepare all the necessary documents required by the immigration and arrange to sign the application forms.
- Agency shall responsible to submit all the application to the related department which include JTK, KBRI and Immigration.
- Once the Calling visa is approved, Agency shall coordinate with the oversea recruitment suppliers to comply all requirements in their country.
- Once obtain the Visa, the FDH will fly into Malaysia
The housemaid can start her work after 5-7 working days after she arrived in Malaysia.
Upon arrival to Malaysia, the agency will settle the airport clearance for her and arrange her to stay in the accommodation. The agency will then register her FOMEMA medical and arrange her medical check-up at the clinic. Once the housemaid is ready, the agency will hand over the housemaid to the employer.
The maid employment contract is binding for a period of two years upon which the maid shall be returned to the home country for a short leave. The contract can be renewed if the maid agreed to return to the same employer otherwise the employer is advised to secure the services of a different maid.
Any foreign domestic helper is allowed to continue working in Malaysia as long as both the employer and the maid agreed to extend the employment contract.
About Foreign Domestic Helper After Arrival
If the Domestic Helper cannot pass her FOMEMA medical in Malaysia, the agency will arrange an appeal and the appeal success rate depends on the type of medical problems. If the appeal is successful, the agency will get the work permit. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the employer will have to return the domestic helper to the agency for repatriation arrangement. Agency will coordinate with oversea supplier to replace new domestic helper with no extra fee incurred.
The employer shall lodge a police report and send it to the agency. The agency will then inform the foreign agency and the family of the housemaid, and also report to the authority to cancel permit.
3 months warranty period is provided by Oversea Recruitment Agency for absconded and unsatisfaction case. Agency shall co-ordinate on behalf employer with Oversea Recruitment Agency for the replacement issue. Replacement fee is applicable.
The employer need to inform the agency immediately and arrange for the counselling session as soon as possible.
The salary of the housemaid is started on the day she landed in Malaysia.
Yes, the employer are strongly encourage to open bank account for the FDH after work permit completed process.
Yes, the employer are compulsory to register for his/her own FDH. The Employer need to make socso contribution every month before 15th
Yes, it is advisable that employer shall co-ordinate with the agency to process for the renewal 2 months before expiry date of the work permit.

To be eligible for hiring a Foreign Domestic Helper in Malaysia, you must be
- Malaysian citizen or a permanent resident aged 21 years or above.
- Employer must be married.
- Employer which marital status is divorce/widow
- Employer which marital status is single are allow as long as the employer is a female and only can apply to take care parents
- Expatriates & MM2H (Additional guidelines and restrictions apply)
- Annual Income must be at least RM60,000.00/year per household to hire Philippine domestic helper.
- Annual Income must be at least RM84,000.00/year per household to hire Indonesia domestic helper.
There are few requirements which are qualified for the application of Foreign Domestic Helper:-
- Taking Care of Children ( below 15th years old)
- Taking Care of Spouse who is sick or above 60years old
- Taking care of Elderly ( Parent or Parent in Laws)
- Cleaning the big house ( 2 storey & above)
- Employer must have a minimum annual income of RM120,000.00 per household
- Employer must have valid reasons to support the application and the reasons cannot same as the existing domestic helper
- Employer which marital status is single is not eligible to hire 2nd Domestic helper
The approval from the Immigration will take from 6 weeks to 8 weeks. It may take longer if there are some unexpected problems.
The agency will inform the employer the reason of reject and discuss with the employer so that the application can be re-submitted again.
About Responsibilities as an Employer
- To ensure the legal status of your foreign Domestic helper as long as she is in Malaysia.
- To be responsible for her upkeep, medical maintenance and welfare.
- To bear the cost of repatriation upon completion of employment contract.
- To contribute SOCSO on monthly basis
No, under Immigration rule, a domestic worker means for residence employment only and as stipulated in the work permit and employment contract.
- Employer shall provide the maid with reasonable accommodation, food and basic personal needs (body soap, shampoo, etc.)
- Employer shall not require the domestic helper to work or to engage in any activities other than that related to household duties.
- Employer shall follow the terms and conditions of foreign domestic helper employment contract duly signed with the Malaysian law/foreign embassy.
- Employer shall respect the differences of cultures and beliefs on regard to the sensitivity of religious of the domestic helper.
- Employer shall not abuse physically/mentally or ill treat foreign domestic helper.
- Employer shall pay the salary on time as date upon arrival in Malaysia.
- Employer shall allow foreign domestic helper to maintain regular communication with the family.
- Employer shall make sure foreign domestic helper have enough rest for at least 8 hours continuous sleep.
- Employers shall not deduct the foreign domestic helper salary for any reason like unintentionally broken or damage the things.
- Employer shall insure maid with the foreign worker compensation scheme in respect of any medical expenses the domestic helper may incur in the event of an injury arises/accident or fall sick during the employment period.
If the housemaid wants to go back to her country, the employer will need buy her flight ticket and process her Exit Memo (COM), and to pay her vacation pay leave as per the contract.
If the housemaid wants to continue to work, the employer needs to renew her work permit as well as her work contract. The employer will need to contact the agency for proper procedure to be process.
